CGI window replacement in Ventura typically runs $450 – $1,100 per opening installed, depending on the series, glass package, and whether the frame or just the sash needs work. We stock CGI-compatible sashes, balances, weatherstripping, and hardware on our truck for the most common lines, so most swaps are done in one visit. Most Ventura owners discover a part has failed the same way: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, a crank that spins without moving the sash, or a latch that no longer locks cleanly against the coastal wind.
We’re an independent Ventura window and door company, not a CGI factory affiliate. That means we replace what’s actually broken, match it to your existing CGI frame, and put the price in writing before any work starts. No surprise line items at the end.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s window lines break down into a few families: the Estate Collection, Targa Series, and the impact-rated Sentinel and Estate lines common in coastal Ventura homes. The parts that fail most often are the same across these families because CGI uses a modular sash-and-balance system, but there is one compatibility gotcha worth knowing before you order anything.
CGI changed the balance shoe profile around 2013, and the older shoes do not seat in newer frames. A balance that looks right in a photo may bind or drop the moment the sash is loaded. We measure the shoe width and the sash weight before recommending any replacement, because a mismatched balance is the single most common cause of a “repaired” CGI window failing again six months later. The model and glass info you need is on the sticker inside the top of the sash or on the frame jamb, and for older Coastal Ventura installs where that sticker has long since faded, we match by the visible glazing bead and the hardware shape rather than guessing from the outside.

Signs Your CGI Window Replacement Is Failing
- Sash drops or won’t stay up. This means a balance shoe has cracked or a spring has lost tension. The sash is not unsafe to close, but it will get worse, and forcing it up can strip the shoe further.
- Hard to open or close, especially after rain. Ventura’s marine layer swells older felt or rubber weatherstripping. Once it’s compressed, the sash binds against the track and the weatherstripping itself tears.
- Draft at the meeting rail. If you can feel air moving between the sashes when the window is closed, the interlock is worn or the frame has shifted slightly. It is not always the glass; it is usually the gasket.
- Condensation between the panes. The seal has failed and inert gas has leaked out. In Ventura’s humidity cycles, that looks like milkiness you cannot wipe off from either side.
- The crank turns but the sash doesn’t move. The gearbox has stripped, which is quick to diagnose once the handle comes off. On CGI casements, the gearbox is easier to replace safely than the sash, and it costs less.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed CGI window replacement in Ventura runs about $450 – $1,100 per opening. A single sash with new balances and weatherstripping sits near the low end. A full frame replacement with impact-rated glass and new trim sits near the high end. Most of the cost difference comes down to frame condition and glass package, not just the part.
Every quote includes parts, labor, clean-up, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the finished work is not right, Lightwell makes it right, no debate, no countdown. We also put the price in writing before work starts, leave shoe covers and drop cloths in place the whole time, and send a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. If we can replace just the worn part instead of the entire window, we’ll tell you that first and price it for exactly what it is.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the sticker on the sash, measure the visible glass width and height, and note whether the problem is in the glass, the track, or the hardware. That is genuinely useful. What you should not do is try to re-tension a CGI balance spring. The spring is under enough load to tear skin or worse if it lets go, and reassembling the sash into the shoe takes a helper and usually a second pair of hands with some feel for it.
Where DIY goes wrong is with the old balance shoe. People buy a part that “looks the same” online, force it in, and then the new shoe cracks on the first cycle. That is not a cautionary tale; we’ve seen it enough in Ventura that we know the sound it makes. If you’d like someone to match the part and install it correctly, call (559) 257-2350. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a quick fix or needs a full opening replacement.
FAQs
CGI’s aluminum frames and impact glass typically hold up 20 – 30 years, but the hardware and weatherstripping show wear much sooner. Close to the Ventura Pier, where salt air accelerates corrosion, you may get 8 – 12 years out of a set of balances before one fails. Call (559) 257-2350 and we’ll tell you what your specific window is telling us.
Some parts can: a worn pivot shoe sometimes just needs a new cam, and a jammed track can be cleaned and re-lubed in 15 minutes. But a failed balance spring, a fogged glass unit, or a cracked sash corner is a replacement job, not a repair. We’ll show you which one you have before quoting.
A single sash swap with new balances and weatherstripping usually takes about an hour from set-up to clean-up. A full frame replacement may take half a day per opening, including trim and exterior sealing.
We keep the most common CGI balances, pivot shoes, handles, and weatherstripping on the truck for Ventura service calls. Specialty trim or non-standard glass packages may take 5 – 10 business days. We also stock parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows when the opening calls for a cross-line fix.
