We keep a rolling stock of Mr-Glass-compatible impact garage door parts on our trucks and in our Ventura shop, and most replacements run between $340 and $1,400 installed depending on the component and your door’s series. A failed part usually announces itself the same way: the door groans mid-travel, sits crooked in the tracks, or refuses to close all the way on a windy afternoon. If you’re reading this, you likely already suspect which part gave out – and you probably want it matched to your exact Mr-Glass model and installed without a second invoice surprise. That’s the job we do.
Mr-Glass builds impact-rated garage doors for coastal homes like the ones we work on along Ventura Avenue and up into the hills behind the 101. What makes these doors different from a standard steel door is the construction: reinforced stiles, thicker gauge track hardware, and spring assemblies tuned to lift a door that can weigh 400 pounds or more. That weight is great news in a windstorm. It’s less great news when one component fails and the other parts start absorbing stress they were never meant to carry.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass manufactures impact garage doors in several series, and parts do not always cross between them cleanly. The two you’ll see most often in Ventura garages are their aluminum-frame full-view impact doors (the ones with large glass panels and a powder-coated frame) and their flush steel impact doors with a foam core and reinforced end stiles. Both are common in homes within a few blocks of the water, where wind-bourne debris is a real consideration and the salt air shortens the life of untreated hardware.
The fastest way to identify your Mr-Glass door series is to check the label riveted near the bottom of the left-hand track or the inside face of the top panel. You’re looking for a style code – typically a letter prefix followed by a series number – that will tell us the panel thickness, hinge pattern, and spring type before we ever set foot in your garage. If that label has worn off or been painted over, measure the thickness of the door panel itself: the aluminum full-view series runs about 1-3/4 inches thick, while the flush steel series is closer to 2 inches. That one measurement rules out half the wrong parts immediately.
We are an independent Ventura service provider, not a Mr-Glass dealer, so we have no reason to push you toward one part over another. That said, we usually recommend OEM Mr-Glass track assemblies and hinge kits when available, simply because the mounting hole patterns are already matched to your door. For springs and rollers, we routinely use aftermarket equivalents that are rated for the same cycle life, because a quality aftermarket torsion spring from a reputable manufacturer will often outlast what came on the door originally. We’ll tell you which choice we made and why, in writing, before we install anything.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Doors Is Failing
- Door slows down and “lurches” between sections. This is almost always a spring beginning to fatigue. On a Mr-Glass impact door, the extra panel weight means a tired spring loses lift capacity fast, and the opener motor starts fighting the door on every cycle. Left alone, that motor burns out next.
- Visible gaps between the door and the weatherstripping on one side. A bent track or a failing hinge on the heavier side of the door causes this. Impact doors don’t flex much by design, so when one hinge starts to wallow out, the misalignment shows up at the seal first.
- A grinding or metallic scraping sound when the door passes through the track radius. Worn rollers with flat spots are the usual culprit. On doors within salt-air reach of Ventura’s coastline, roller bearings corrode faster, and the flat spot grows until the roller stops rolling entirely and starts dragging.
- One corner of the door sits lower than the other when half-open. This points to a broken cable or an unbalanced spring. Drums don’t wind evenly when a cable has stretched, and a heavy impact door magnifies the difference. You’ll often see the problem before you hear it.
- The door reverses before hitting the floor, or refuses to stay down. On impact doors, this is often the bottom safety sensor misaligned, but it can also be a sign that the door is torquing under its own weight because a stile inside the panel has begun to separate. Worth looking at closely in Ventura, where a door that won’t seal fully becomes a welcome mat for rodents and a liability in the next heavy wind event.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, expect to pay:
- Torsion spring replacement (pair): $340 – $520 installed
- Roller replacement (set of 10, high-cycle nylon): $180 – $310 installed
- Hinge and track kit (one side): $260 – $480 installed
- Cable and drum assembly (both sides): $220 – $390 installed
- Panel replacement (single impact panel, flush steel): $700 – $1,400 installed
These ranges include the part, the labor, and our cleanup. What changes the number is access (low-clearance Garages in older Ventura neighborhoods off Main Street sometimes require more maneuvering), whether we’re replacing one component or a set, and whether we can reuse your existing drums and bearing plates or need to swap them too. We write the price down before any work starts, and that is the number you pay. No change order, no “we found more once we opened it up” conversation unless you approve it first in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
There are checks you can do safely: unplug the opener and run the door by hand to feel for rough spots, look at the cables for fraying where they wrap the drum, and note whether both sides of the door lift evenly. What you should not attempt is replacing a torsion spring, a cable under tension, or anything bolted near the bottom bracket. The spring on a Mr-Glass impact door is wound tighter than one on a standard residential door because the panel weight is higher. When that tension releases, it does so without warning and with enough force to break bone. We say this plainly because we have unwound more than a few springs in our years in Ventura, and we’ve never met one that was forgiving.
If you’ve checked what you can and the door still isn’t right, call our shop at (559) 257-2350. Keith Yamada or one of our techs will talk through the symptom with you, tell you honestly whether it sounds like a spring or something simpler, and schedule a visit at a time that works. No dispatch fee for a diagnosis, no obligation once we arrive.
FAQs
In Ventura’s coastal air, we typically see torsion springs last 7 to 10 years and rollers last 5 to 8 years, which is noticeably shorter than inland because salt mist accelerates corrosion in bearings, cables, and untreated end plates. If your door faces west toward the ocean breeze, expect the lower end of those ranges. Call (559) 257-2350 for an in-person assessment.
It depends on the part: rollers, hinges, and drums are usually replaced rather than rebuilt, while track sections can sometimes be straightened if the damage is minor and the metal hasn’t cracked. Springs and cables are never repaired – once a spring shows signs of fatigue or a cable has a single broken strand visible near the drum, it gets replaced. Call us at (559) 257-2350 and we’ll tell you which category your part falls into.
Most single-part replacements, like springs or rollers, are done in 60 to 90 minutes once we’re in your Ventura garage. A full hinge and track replacement on both sides takes closer to half a day. We’ll give you a time window before arriving and a realistic duration before we begin.
Yes. We carry the most commonly failing parts for Mr-Glass aluminum full-view and flush steel impact doors on our service trucks: torsion springs in the common Ventura sizes, high-cycle nylon rollers, hinge kits, cables, and drums. If your part is a less common size, we’ll source it from our Ventura-area suppliers and have it within a few business days, and we’ll tell you that timeline up front.
If your Mr-Glass impact garage door is groaning, sitting crooked, or fighting the opener, we can match the part to your model, quote you a written price, and have it installed right – the first time. We also stock parts for PGT, CGI, and CWS impact doors if you have more than one brand in your home. Call Lightwell Windows Ventura at (559) 257-2350 to schedule a free estimate. A real person answers, and we’ll treat your garage like it belongs to us.
