If you have a PGT door in your Ventura home and a part has failed – a roller, a hinge, a weather seal, a lock assembly, or the panel itself – we install PGT-compatible door components and full door units, with most repairs running between $180 and $650 installed depending on the part and panel size. We keep common PGT hardware on our trucks so a single visit usually gets your door working again. The way most Ventura homeowners discover the problem is gradual: the door starts dragging a little on the track, or you feel a draft near the jamb on windy days off the coast, or the lock doesn’t quite catch the way it used to. Then one morning it sticks halfway open and you realize you’ve been nursing it along for months. That’s the moment to call us at (559) 257-2350 – before a partially failed part takes out the rollers or the frame with it.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds two families that show up constantly in Ventura: the sliding glass door lines (including the SGD series and the WinGuard impact-rated sliders, which are common in homes closer to the coast) and the hinged patio door lines. The part you need depends on which one you have. Sliding doors wear out rollers, tracks, and the weatherstripping along the stiles first; hinged doors fail at the hinges, the sweep, or the multi-point lock.
To identify exactly what you have, look at the corner of the glass or the edge of the door panel for a small etched label with the PGT logo and a series code. If the label has faded – salt air does that faster in Ventura than you’d expect – check the top edge of the sliding panel, where the roller assemblies sit. Measure the width of the panel and the distance between the mounting holes on the roller housing. PGT rollers are sized to the series, and a roller from the WinGuard line will not seat correctly in a standard SGD track, even if it looks close at a glance. We match every part by series, not by eyeballing it.
When a part is no longer in production, we use quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original dimensions and weight rating. For anything that affects the structural or impact rating of the door – glass, frame, or the jamb hardware on a WinGuard unit – we always recommend OEM PGT components. Lightwell Windows Ventura is an independent service provider; we are not affiliated with PGT, but we install their products and parts daily.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing
- The door is suddenly harder to push or pull. This is almost always debris in the bottom track or a roller whose bearings have started to flatten. In Ventura, fine grit and sand get tracked in from driveways and sidewalks, and it chews through roller bearings faster than most manufacturers expect.
- You can see daylight or feel air moving around the closed door. The weatherstripping along the stile or header has compressed or torn. Coastal wind off the Pacific finds every gap, and once the seal goes, the draft is constant.
- The lock lever or handle sticks, or it turns without engaging. PGT multi-point locks are precise mechanisms. When the door panel sags even slightly – common after years of use – the lock rods misalign with the keepers and the handle binds.
- You hear a grinding or scraping sound when the door moves. That’s a roller that has stopped rolling, or a panel out of square dragging on the track. Leaving it this way scores the track and turns a $200 part replacement into a full track and panel job.
- The door has dropped and scrapes the track on one side. On hinged doors, this is a failing hinge; on sliders, it’s usually a collapsed roller on one end. Either way, continued use wears the frame unevenly.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, most PGT door part replacements run between $180 and $650 installed. A single roller replacement typically lands at the low end – $180 to $260 – while a full weather seal kit with track cleaning and adjustment runs $220 to $340. Multi-point lock replacements are usually $320 to $550 depending on the lock style, and a complete roller set for both panels with new stainless hardware lands between $400 and $650.
What moves the price is the part itself and whether the track or frame needs correction once we’re in there. If a roller has scored the track, we’ll tell you before we touch anything and give you the corrected number in writing. You get the price before work starts – always. That’s not a marketing line; it’s how Keith runs every job. The written quote includes the part, labor, and haul-away of the old hardware. Our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right after we leave, we make it right.

There are two things you can safely do before calling: clear debris from the bottom track with a vacuum, and check that the door panels aren’t visibly out of square. That’s it. PGT sliding door panels are heavy – the WinGuard impact units in particular can weigh over 150 pounds for the movable panel alone. Removing and reinstalling one without the right lifting technique or a second set of hands is how backs get injured and panels get cracked. The rollers are under the full weight of the panel, and the springs in PGT’s roller assemblies can snap loose when they’re removed incorrectly. We say this plainly because we’ve seen the aftermath of a homeowner who “just watched a video.” The panel came off the track and the glass didn’t survive the fall.
If your door is dragging, drafty, or the lock is sticking, call us at (559) 257-2350. We’ll diagnose it, price it, and fix it – usually in one visit.
FAQs
Coastal air shortens hardware life. In a home near the Ventura Pier, you can expect rollers and weatherstripping to need attention every 7 to 10 years; inland and east of the 101, we see those same parts last 12 to 15 years before the first replacement. The glass and frame will outlast the hardware, but salt air plus marine fog means the hinges, rollers, and locks need eventual service. Call (559) 257-2350 if your door is closing in on a decade and starting to complain.
Some things can – a sticking multi-point lock often just needs cleaning and adjustment, and a sluggish roller can sometimes be lubricated for another year. But most failed parts on a PGT door are replaceable components; they’re not meant to be rebuilt. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you have, and we’ll only recommend replacement when repair won’t hold.
Most single-part jobs – one roller set, a weather seal kit, or a lock assembly – are finished in 90 minutes to two hours, including track cleaning and adjusting the other components so everything moves in balance. We protect the surrounding floors with drop cloths and shoe covers, and we photograph the cleanup before we leave. For exact timing on your door, call (559) 257-2350.
We stock the common PGT parts on our trucks – rollers, lock assemblies, weather seal kits, and handles for the standard SGD and WinGuard series. If you have a less common configuration or a color-matched part that’s out of stock, we order it and let you know exactly when to expect the return visit. The quote is always the same whether we fix it same visit or second visit.
