PGT window replacement in Ventura typically runs between $850 and $1,900 per opening installed, depending on the series, glass package, and whether the frame needs full replacement or a sash-only swap. We stock PGT-compatible replacement sashes, insulated glass units, balances, and hardware for most PGT lines, and we can usually have your window operating correctly within one visit. The moment most Ventura homeowners realize a PGT part has failed is subtle: a window that suddenly takes two hands to lift, a corner of glass fogging between the panes on a cool morning, or a lock that no longer meets the strike plate the way it did last year. By the time the salt air off the Ventura Pier has done its work on the hardware, the window has often been quietly failing for months.
Lightwell Windows Ventura is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with PGT, but we work with their products every week, and we carry the sealed units and hardware that match their specs. Keith Yamada and our crew have seen enough PGT installations along the Ventura coast to know exactly where they hold up beautifully, and exactly where the marine layer finds a way in.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT’s product lines most commonly installed in Ventura homes include the WinGuard series (impact-rated), the SpectraGuard series, and the ClassicVue series, along with PGT Custom Windows for non-standard openings. Each line uses its own balance system, sash profile, and often its own glazing bead, which means a part that fits a WinGuard sash will not necessarily seat correctly in a SpectraGuard frame.
The fastest way to identify your PGT model is to check the corner of the glass for a laser-etched logo or look for a small metal or vinyl tag on the sash or frame. PGT also stamps a production code on the spacer bar between glass panes on many units. If the window was installed as part of a builder package, the model may be listed in the closing documents or the window’s original warranty paperwork. The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision matters here: on impact-rated PGT glass, we strongly recommend OEM or PGT-spec insulated glass units, because the interlayer and thickness are part of the impact rating. Aftermarket sealed units can physically fit but may not carry the same rating. On mechanical hardware like balances and locks, quality aftermarket equivalents often perform identically and cost 20 to 35 percent less. We will tell you which is which, and why, before we order anything.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing
- Fog or condensation between the glass panes: This means the insulated glass unit seal has failed and moist coastal air has gotten between the panes. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated, the fog will not clear, and the only real fix is a new IGU.
- The sash drops or will not stay open: PGT block-and-tackle or spiral balances wear out, especially in Ventura homes where windows face the prevailing afternoon wind from the ocean. A sudden drop is a failed balance, not a dirty track.
- The lock no longer lines up or takes real force to engage: Over time, the sash settles, the keeper loosens, or the lock mechanism’s internal spring corrodes. It is a small part, but it is also a security issue, and it usually fails gradually enough that homeowners adapt without noticing.
- Drafts or a whistling sound around the sash edges: Weatherstripping on PGT windows compresses over years of use and salt exposure. If you can feel air moving around the sash on a windy day, the weatherstripping has likely reached the end of its life.
- The window is hard to slide or sticks at one point in the track: This can be a worn roller assembly or a track that has collected grit and salt. A track that has worn through its coating will keep binding until the rollers and track are addressed together.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Ventura homeowners, here is where most PGT window replacement jobs land:
- Replacement sash only (glass + frame insert): $850 to $1,250 per opening installed
- Insulated glass unit replacement (new IGU into existing sash): $350 to $650 per opening installed
- Full window replacement (new PGT or PGT-equivalent unit, frame and all): $1,200 to $1,900 per opening installed
- Hardware-only repair (balance, lock, roller): $140 to $320 per window
The range depends on the glass package (standard versus impact-rated laminated glass), the window’s size, and whether we are matching an existing PGT unit or replacing the entire frame. Every quote we write is a fixed number before work starts. No change orders, no invoice surprise. The labor, parts, haul-away of the old unit, and a photo of the clean-up are all in the price. Our workmanship warranty applies to the install, and PGT’s own warranty applies to new PGT products where eligible. We will explain which covers what, in writing, before you approve anything.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things are safe to check yourself: if the window is sticking, you can clean the track with a dry cloth and look for visible grit or salt buildup along the bottom rail. If the lock is loose, you can check whether the screws have backed out of the keeper. That is where safe DIY on a PGT window ends for most people.
Replacing an insulated glass unit requires removing the glazing bead without cracking it, handling a panel that can weigh 40 pounds or more, and seating the new unit so the seal compresses evenly. A PGT balance carries spring tension, and releasing it wrong can send a metal component flying. Impact-rated glass is laminated and heavy, and a dropped corner means a cracked panel you now have to buy twice. If you are unsure whether the problem is a $15 part or a $600 glass unit, call us at (559) 257-2350 and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you straight what it likely is, and whether it is worth a service visit.
FAQs
PGT window frames typically last 20 to 30 years in Ventura’s coastal climate, but the insulated glass units and mechanical hardware usually need attention sooner. The seal on an IGU commonly fails between years 10 and 18, especially on west-facing windows that take the full salt and sun exposure. Hardware like balances and rollers often wears out between years 8 and 15. You replace the parts, not the whole window, until the frame itself degrades. Call (559) 257-2350 if you want us to look at whether your unit is worth repairing or replacing.
It depends on what failed. A failed balance, a worn roller, a corroded lock, or compressed weatherstripping can all be replaced as individual parts. A fogged IGU cannot be repaired, only replaced. If the frame is cracked, warped, or the corner welds on a vinyl frame have separated, repair becomes a losing game and full replacement is the honest answer. We will tell you which camp your window falls into before you spend a dollar.
A single sash or IGU replacement typically takes 90 minutes to two hours from the time our technician arrives to the time the clean-up photo is taken. A full frame replacement on one window usually runs half a day. If we are replacing multiple windows, the work often completes in one to two days depending on access and weather. We will give you a written schedule with the estimate, and we will call if anything about that schedule changes.
We stock common PGT balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping on our trucks, along with standard-size insulated glass units for the most common PGT series. Odd sizes, impact-rated glass, and non-white color frames are usually ordered and arrive in one to three weeks. The moment we know your window’s measurements and model, we can give you a real timeline rather than a guess. Call (559) 257-2350 and we will check stock while you are on the phone.
